gleaming the cube

Thanks to Uncle Aphe for the awesome photo!  I love how the dude in the background is waiting to check Gus' moves...

Gus is super interested in writing these days!  He's been tracing letters and venturing out into making letters (and writing his name) on his own and it's so exciting!!!

Plus, here are just a couple of cute mispronunciations that I will be sad to see (rather, hear) go:
*maple leaf = make-believe
*egg corns = acorns
*expect = except

Gus has lost two of his great grandparents over the last couple of months, and although at age three he may not remember them in detail, I know that he will carry parts of them with him throughout his entire life.  Already, Gus exhibits pieces of them that I've always admired:  the meticulousness (with specific things) that was so characteristic of his great-grandma and an aptitude for mechanics that his great-grandpa had in spades.  Another thing that reflects both of his great-grandparents' personalities is Gus' absolute delight in word-play.  After all, we're talking about the same kid, who, at age two came up with his first joke:  "hey look:  fork-lift (as he raised his eating utensil)!"

In Gus, his great-grandparents will live on, but his Mama sure will miss them terribly.

"I loooove the dentist!"

So Gus visited the dentist for the first time, and although I previously mentioned that there would be no post to follow-up this milestone, it went off without a [much-expected] hitch.  He was really quite nervous and very, very quiet with a firm grip on my hand the entire time.  But he sat on my lap while his mouth was poked, prodded, cleaned, polished, fluorided, suctioned, poked again, etc. and when it was over looked at me and the hygienist and said, "that wasn't so bad!"  He then was showered with praise and awarded his choice of neon-plastic toy prizes (he picked two bracelets and two fake coins) plus a balloon and a new toothbrush which, of course, is where the whole, "I loooove the dentist!" phrase comes into play, I'm sure.

At any rate, he surprised the heck out of me and made me really proud.  That kid is growing up in leaps and bounds!

First Day Of School!!!

Plus, he was a lot happier than he appeared in the photos; he was sooo excited to go to school and afterward confirmed that it was pretty great!  Yay, Big Kid!

Next milestone:  First visit to the dentist (tomorrow at 9 am).  Just don't expect a blogpost...  No one likes to hear about spit and tears.

Age Progression, in 3 Stages:

 Gus:  Age 1
 Gus:  Age 2
Gus:  Age 3

Yeah, yeah, another post! (I can't believe it either)

Gus instantaneously adopts a proprietary air when a bowl of ice cream is anywhere near.  Needless to say, he loves the stuff.  And it's his.  Not his Mama's or Papa's, but HIS.  So tonight when I asked him for a bite of his chocolate "brown," (as he calls the occasional treat) Gus gripped his bowl fiercely, clung to his spoon then slyly, deliberately said, "You can lick it off my face, if you want to."

Without further ado (well, any ado), here's the latest and greatest:
